Call for Chapters: Designing Effective Distance and Blended Learning Environments in K-12.

CALL FOR CHAPTERS ANNOUNCEMENT!

I am editing a new book for IGI Global titled "Designing Effective Distance and Blended Learning Environments in K-12." I have most of the chapter authors lined up, but I am still looking for about 4-5 more authors to contribute to the project. I am particularly interested in including more authors that work in urban school environments. Below is the chapter proposal link with more information about the project (also included below in post) as well as next steps. Please consider adding a proposal or sharing with those in your network that you think would be valuable contributors to this project!

This course emphasizes active learning whereby students demonstrate understanding through interactive presentations, digital stories, screencasts, collaborative documents, virtual field trips, interactive maps, timelines, and more.

Creating Effective Hybrid & Blended Learning Environments (2-Week Summer Course)

Creating Effective Hybrid & Blended Learning Environments (2-Week Summer Course)

This Spring, educators and students across the world were thrust into distance learning scenarios within a matter of days. Now that we have some experience to reflect back on, let’s consider what practices worked best, which challenges persist, and how we can design more powerful and impactful learning experiences in the future. Given the current projections, educators must now prepare for several scenarios that will include a mix of on-site, distance and blended (or hybrid) learning environments.

Games, Simulations and Virtual Field Trips (Free Webinar on May 26th!)

Although distance learning has gone very well in many districts across the nation, one common challenge is how to keep students engaged in the process. Yes, this is no easy task… In this EdTechTeacher webinar, we will explore several powerful yet practical ways to enhance engagement and authenticity in distance learning environments. First, we will explore how teachers can leverage games and simulations to engage students as well as how to facilitate student interaction with them remotely. We will then discuss various ways that teachers can spark real-world learning through virtual field trips and guest speakers.

Best Mic Options For Teachers

Best Mic Options For Teachers

Teachers across the world are attending virtual meetings, hosting live classes and creating instructional videos. When engaging in this new reality of teaching, you may have realized that your computer’s built-in microphone just isn’t cutting it. I realized this a while back when creating my first “flipped videos” and have tested out countless mic options over the years. Below are three great options for teachers looking to improve their sound quality, all without breaking the bank.

New Webinar: Deeper Learning Through Remote & Blended Environments (5/20/20)

Two burning questions have been at the forefront of my thinking lately. 1) How can teachers foster deeper student learning given current educational circumstances?… and 2) How can school and district leaders encourage and support more engaging and authentic learning given the many challenges that we face?

Screencasting with Screencastify!

Screencasting with Screencastify!

Screencastify is one of the most popular screencasting tools for educators, and for good reason! It is a free Chrome extension that enables you to record your screen, add voiceover audio, and embed a webcam video. There are also some annotation and editing tools built-in. This is incredibly helpful for distance learning since it helps teachers provide students with much needed asynchronous video instruction that is tailored to their needs and interests.

How to Create Instructional Videos With Google Meet

How to Create Instructional Videos With Google Meet

In my work with teachers around distance learning, I have been advocating for the creation of instructional videos that are tailored to their particular students. One of the simplest and most effective ways to get up and running with video creation is actually with Google Meet! Here is a quick tutorial I just created demonstrating the process in three steps:
