It is indisputable that the ability to navigate and evaluate information online has never been more complex, or more vital to the health of our democracy! Anyone who knows me and my work will recognize my passion for this issue and all-things civic education related. This is why I am so excited about a new project that I’ve learned about over the past year called Agents of Influence. Through conversations with the development team and live demo’s of the game, I can’t wait to see where this project goes!

I am excited to share that the book chapter I co-authored with Shawn McCusker, “Innovation in Civic Education: Preparing Citizens for a Modern World,” has recently been published. It is included in the new book “Emerging Techniques and Applications for Blended Learning in K-20 Classrooms.”

We are experiencing a rising tide of advocacy for high quality civic education across the nation. There is also increasing interest and promising research around the impact that gamification can play in instructional design. Therefore, how might we leverage the power of gamification and game-based learning to enhance civic education? 

I’m excited to be presenting with EdTechTeacher colleague Shawn McCusker next month at MASSCUE/MASCD. Based upon our work collaborating on the Modern Civics Project, we will be running a session titled “Leading Innovation in Civic Education: Preparing Citizens for a Modern World.”
